Ok, hear me out on this one. I know the title was a little “cheeky”but it was meant to be! But it doesn’t make my experience at the Vet yesterday any less valid…
So yesterday I had to take my cat, M.C., to the vet for his yearly flea medication refill and check-up. Poor guy has been having a hard time battling them with this summer heat, plus we live on a plush canyon, so fleas are abundant!
Here’s my buddy after we got home. Needless to say, he was NOT pleased about the experience. He HATES being in the carrying crate and doesn’t like the car rides. đ
(Do you see his “baby” on the bed off to the right?) That’s a blue and white stuffed snowman called Mr. Snowy, that he’s had since he was the same size as it! He literally carries it around the house, specifically to whatever room we happen to be hanging out in. LOL! He’s so funny!!
Anyway, I had been deep in thought most of the day, and felt so terrible for my guy because I know he hates having to go to the Vet. But of course I was there the whole time trying to reassure him and pet him as best I could through the crate and calm him down….which kinda worked….sometimes. Lol
And it got me thinking, “This must be what it’s like when we’re resisting and not trusting God!”
God is lovingly caring for us and deeply desires us to TRUST Him and calm down! But we’re fighting, hissing, restless, anxious and distrusting since we feel like we’re on the inside only being able to look out the small peep holes to glimpse pieces of the “big picture.”
Oh, how God longs for us to trust Him and REST. The Bible says:
“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eatâ for he grants sleep to those he loves.” Psalm 127:2
Basically that’s telling us that we’re running scared, not trusting, not resting in God’s all-knowing, all-powerful, unimaginably powerful hands! (And believe me when I tell you this message is 100% for myself as well!)
I’m completely guilty of being the frightened and anxious cat in the box, not realizing that God is, and has been, carrying me all along–to the destination and destiny that He has created me for. So why am I still not trusting??! Why am I ridden with fear, doubt, hesitation, distrust and anxiety?? I’m exhausted just recounting the experience!
It was such a powerful realization for me, I HAD to share it with you as well.
>>Final Thought: I hope you can take that silly visual to heart, to realize if you too have been the frightened cat on the inside looking out, feeling out of control, remember you’re already in the hands of an all-knowing and ever-loving God. Who created you, loved you before you were even born and has a beautiful destiny waiting for you–if you’d trust Him to bring you to it.

Not again…I was determined! I was dedicated! I was FINALLY making progress! And what did I do?
I screwed it up. I self-sabotaged. I intentionally tried to mess it up!
Can you relate? I see this pattern as I start to make progress in my weight loss goals, and my better judgement gets pushed aside by the temporary desire for a guilty pleasure! And I’m not saying that treating yourself every once in a while is a bad thing or something “wrong” but when it comes as a direct reaction to making progress, that’s where the problem lies.
But here’s the good news–for me AND for you–Not losing the battle in our minds is what really matters.
Knowing we WILL eventually achieve our goals is how the minor setbacks lose their power. The occasional indulgence (or blueberry scone in my case) cannot undo the other 95% of effort we’ve been putting in. It may delay the outcome, but it will not reverse it.
>>Final thought: Next time we catch ourselves about to self-sabotage when we’ve been making such good progress–give grace to our heart and mind. Know that God loves us no matter what, but if we’re still committed to our goal, then have faith it will be achieved in the end.
One set-back does not negate your destiny.

Life is best lived to the fullest–You’re worth it!
What a night. There are so many broken hearts. How do we handle this pain?
I almost never watch the news, and I barely hear about things everyone else has been talking about until way after fact, if at all. But in wake of yesterday’s events in Dallas, it was all over social media and I finally caught up on what had been transpiring over the past weeks in Minneapolis and Baton Rouge.
How do we process this information of hate and retaliation? How do we see a just God in the midst of this crisis?
In times of great strife, heartache and injustice (that unfortunately transpire every day, all over the world) it’s hard to see God at work, or even present at all. But we know He’s there.
The Bible tells us God is omnipresent–present at all places, at all times–so the questions arise of why doesn’t he prevent tragedies, and why does he let certain things happen?
We may never get the answers this side of Heaven, but we can lean God’s promises that He will avenge the unjust, He will have the ultimate ruling when we get to Heaven. He collects each of our tears and hears our cries when words cannot express our grief or our pain.
He loves us beyond measure and His ways are not our ways. We cannot always see His plan or how He’s moving, but we can ask for His peace that passes all understanding and act in faith that He is who He says He is.
>>Final Thought: Let us not respond with hatred, disdain, fear or retaliation–not with our actions and not in our hearts. Let us cling to the message of love, grace, mercy and forgiveness that we’re called to, and let us release the judgement to God.
Your sister in Christ,
~Dr. Melody
