Sometimes you just need a *break*– give it to God and REST!

Blog Image

We are going 100 miles a minute almost ALL the time…

Sometimes we just need a break. A time out. A rest.
Two things that help amidst chaos and overwhelm are prayer (aka letting go) and journaling.

When we decide we’re no longer going to shoulder the burden, God has been waiting all along for us to lay it at his feet. It can be hard to fully let go, and if we can’t see a way out or think of HOW God is going to help or solve our strife, we don’t trust it will happen, so we remain in the struggle.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God
so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all
your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7
Secondly, journaling. Not just journaling when you’re so bottled up you might explode (which is a fine time to grab your pen and paper to save the oncoming onslaught) but to make journaling a daily release, daily habit, daily practice to get your emotions out of your head and into your consciousness. Amazing shifts, breakthroughs and beautiful awareness comes from writing out your life–day by day. Patterns emerge. Conversations get deep, frustrations get released, and honest talk with God happens.
 >> Final thought: If you’ve not yet developed a daily journaling practice, why not start today? Grab a pen and scrap paper–it doesn’t have to be fancy. Just start by reflecting on your day. See what comes out. Were there any challenges today that you need to dig into to learn, grow and let go of? Any unsettling feelings come that you should delve a little into the roots of? Simply writing them out will bring you more peace and clarity to help you give them over to God, not as a last resort, but as your “go-to” Redeemer.

How the voice in your head is MAKING or BREAKING you

We’ve all head of self-talk, but how hard are you trying to put yours in check?

And how are we REALLY supposed to change years of thoughts, input, ingrained sayings, family patterns, habits and messages from the world around us…how much can we really control and regulate that?

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day and we were talking about the challenges of weight loss, juggling motherhood, work, life in general and how and when are you supposed to eat right, prepare ahead and exercise, for heaven’s sake!

Some things I started to notice were the nonchalant phrases of “it’s going to take me forever” or “life is so busy I just can’t do it all” or “it’s impossible to….” and it really began to become apparent to me that the problem was not as much overwhelm, excuses or lack of motivation–the was simpler than that.

It started with a thought.

And that thought gets repeated enough that the brain literally begins to believe it--starts to act on it–starts to see “evidence” of it’s validity everywhere we go. Therefore it reiterates to us that it MUST be true.

Not so. Have you heard Henry Ford’s classic quote:

“If you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.”

Our thoughts are things.
Let me say that again: Our Thoughts are Things.

So yes, if you tell yourself you’re never going to be good enough, it’s never going to happen, it’s going to take too long, there’s too few hours in a day, life is too busy to make your health a priority and on and on and ON….then YES. You’re correct. If you don’t like that reality, then it’s also in your power TO CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS. To put a new spin on it. To begin to see life in a new, more positive, supporting and opportunistic way, and when you do….guess what? You’ll begin to see it materialize at first in little ways, then in bigger ways, then eventually everywhere you turn and everywhere you look, and every thought you think will be supporting and spurring you on toward your goals and toward the reality of your new thoughts.

But it STARTS with the thoughts in your mind first.

So being aware of them, learning to censor and weed out the negative ones, transforming them consciously into positive ones…over and over and over until it finally sinks in….will begin to transform your life, your outlook and your goal achievement–but it all starts with that little sneaky voice inside your head…

>> Final thought: If thoughts are things, how well are yours serving you today? If you’re not happy with your outcomes and your current reality, start by regulating your thoughts and watch the world around you begin to change…

Healthy Eating Sabotage – How To Beat It Once and For ALL!

Eating healthy can be hard sometimes! Especially if you don’t plan ahead, or there’s an unexpected office party, and for goodness sake the holiday temptations will be at every turn in less than a month!

Sometimes what we need is a perspective shift.

In this video I talk about just that. The perspective shift that’s needed to make navigating those sugary temptations or going on that run so much easier!

Stepping into our calling and responsibility to care for our bodies as the temples of the Holy Spirit they were created for is the most noble of job descriptions we can fulfill.

And that’s the key phrase, “we CAN fulfill.”

It can be done.

And it starts today.

With a decision.

With a calling.

With owning the responsibility.

With stopping the self-sabotage.

With taking joy in God’s creation.

With making better choices.

With choosing to plan ahead.

With choosing to pass the drive-thru.

With taking joy in eating from the earth.

With showing love to your body by keeping it active and healthy.

With each little decision adding up to a healthier body and a healthier you.

I hope you took the 5 minutes to watch the video above, as I’m truly sharing from my heart what each of us are capable of. If not, take that time right now.

Stepping into a healthier lifestyle is really answering the call to love our bodies and show that love to God through our actions.

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Cor. 6:19-20

~Melody
